Am I Eligible for a VA Loan?

The Department of Veterans Affairs has mandated requirements for qualifying for VA Loans today. To be eligible for these loans, veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard members, and those on the reserves list must meet these requirements. Spouses left in the wake of a military member who died while serving are also eligible for the loans.

The decision rests with the VA to determine acceptance into the loan program, Prospective borrowers can still get a good idea by looking at the eligibility guidelines set forth today. To be eligible, applicants must meet one of more of the following conditions:

  1. 90-consecutive days or active service during wartime
  2. 181-days of active service during peacetime
  3. 6-years or more of service in the National Guard or Reserves
  4. Spousal relation to a service member who died in the line of duty (or as a result of a service-induced disability)

Only one of the four eligibility requirements needs to be met for review by the VA. Once you review the guidelines and affirm that you are permissible under at least one of the restrictions, it’s time to apply for a VA Loan Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

We Can Do This For You!

It’s worth noting that although you do not need this certificate to begin the loan application process, this item is essential in validating your eligibility. These reviews are also factored into the VA Loan process.

To apply for the VA Loan Certificate of Eligibility, you have three options:

  1. Use the VA’s eBenefits Portal
  2. Mail-in VA Form 26-1880
  3. Use a VA approved lender

You can also request assistance from our loan team to acquire this COE with your permission. Additionally, you can speak with one of our VA Specialists to get your COE immediately today. Fortunately, the process typically only takes a few minutes to complete, although sometimes requiring proof of your military service (DD-214) for completion. After it’s done, your home financing can move forward without any obstacles.
